Chai Sugar Cookies
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup milk
- Additional granulated sugar for rolling
Instructions:
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, ground cinnamon, ground ginger, ground cardamom, and ground cloves
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy
Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture, and beat until well combined
Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk
Mix until just combined
Cover the cookie dough and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or until firm
Preheat your oven to 375F 190C and line a baking sheet with parchment paper
Using a cookie scoop or your hands, roll the dough into 1-inch balls
Roll each dough ball in additional granulated sugar until coated
Place the sugar-coated dough balls on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each cookie
Using the bottom of a glass or a flat-bottomed cup, gently press down on each cookie to slightly flatten
Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden
Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely
